Team Tuesday ~ Team Evan

*Shouting* TEAM TUESDAY! TEAM TUESDAY IS HERE ONCE AGAIN! I can't contain my excitement for today. I've been reading The 5th Wave Trilogy by Rick Yancey and I am so on Team Evan. So... that means I will be ranting about Evan Walker of The 5th Wave.

My heart belongs to Evan because:

1. Even though he is assigned as a Silencer, he takes control of his humanity and listens to his heart.

     Evan doesn't think like his other kind and is on the side of the humans. While being in a human body for like 5 years, he has turned his humanity on. He develops a love for Cassie when all thought it was impossible. His heart is the true key as to how he becomes more human than other.

2. He keeps his promises no matter what happens.

      Even though the situation becomes bad or dangerous, he always keeps his promises to Cassie. He promises to come back to her when he says it. In a world where promises became the new currency, Evan fulfills it unless he did not say it.

"I kept my promise," he whispered.
3. At times of seriousness, he always says something sweet to distract one from the real situation.

     Cassie always gets mad at when Evan does this but, she still thinks it's sweet. (I think so too!) He reveals something bad with something nice to say first about Cassie like about how he loves her, etc. He always drops some info that is crucial later on. The things he says are so sweet and loving, driving you to love his some more.

"That was his style, too: Every time I edged too close to something, he deflected by tell me how much he loved me or how I saved him or some other swoony, pseudo-profound observation about the nature of my magnificence. But I grabbed the pad and pen from the desk and handed them over because, at the end of the day, who minds getting a tender love poem?"

"He was nodding thoughtfully. "God, I've missed you."
"There! There it is, right there! Just like the Walker homestead, just like Camp Ashpit, just like Vosch's death camp. Whenever I've got you cornered..."

Evan Walker has me on his team in The 5th Wave Trilogy by Rick Yancey. Although he does not reveal his secrets as fast as I want him to, he does rebound by saying something romantic. *Happy sigh once again.* (What am I doing to myself?)

Starring... The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey {Review}

16131484How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.

Fangirling Scale: Wishing on the stars!

Emotions swim frantically in The Infinite Sea Mr. Yancey has metaphorically expressed throughout the book. Mr. Yancey explores the broken roots of these characters and how each one of them deals with the disastrous alien apocalypse still occurring at hand. The aliens' plot begins to unravel as Cassie, Evan, and their companions work together to try to outsmart their enemies. Which leads to unbroken promises becoming the new currency. Living in this world, however, created promises to be rare amongst the characters. Unless you are Evan, of course.

The transition from reading the first book, The 5th Wave, to The Infinite Sea was doubtful for me because of the change in point of views presented in this book. This time around, we receive more of a perspective from Ringer rather than Cassie whose point of view I love. Cassie's point of view is very entertaining to read for that I can connect to her words on a personal level than Ringer. Ringer's point of view is more shielded and careful of what she expresses because of her background that practically overwhelms her, leaving her to be more outspoken and less dependent on her romance with two characters. Less perspectives exist within this book but, still the same problem of character recognition may still occur. Since this is still another complaint of readers, I hope Mr. Yancey doesn't like add names to distinguish the point of views because the effect of not knowing which POV we are reading surprises me in a good I-want-more way.

Reviews have circulated around this book saying that The Infinite Sea is being a "filler book". Although I thought before reading this book that it certainly is not, my opinion has shifted a little on this claim. I understand where these people would come from because The Infinite Sea kind of proves itself to be just filling the void between the trilogy. My reasons as to why I think The Infinite Sea can be considered a "filler book" are: 1. The plot does not really move the story along as the main focus is on Cassie's and her companions' survival and Evan's return. The whole book tells the story and uneventful moments of their survival while their upper hand on the aliens depends on Evan returning which leads to Cassie and the gang basically waiting for him to come the whole time in the hotel. 2. The new characters introduced in this story does not contribute much to the story. Adding Grace and Razor into the story mostly just added tension to some relationships and some action scenes that did not add much excitement in my opinion.

Aside from the negatives of this book, I still did enjoy the backstory of Poundcake. By reading about him, I felt that readers were given the chance to understand the other characters and uncover deeper layers of each of their souls. Another thing that I liked was the ending where there was no cliffhanger which is usually in the end of sequels. The ending still contained that fighting spirit wanting you to read the next book while still delivering bad/good news that the fight is still not over. AND surely the fight for our Earth is not over.

Starring... The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey {Review}

16101128After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

Fangirling Scale: Gazing at the Stars!

SURVIVAL IS KEY. BUT, HOW CAN ONE SURVIVE IN A WORLD WHERE ALL HOPE IS LOST?
The 5th Wave adventures into the realization that aliens have taken over our beloved planet, Earth. The thought of an alien invasion to overthrow Earth was impossible. Think again, these aliens are not the typical ones we envision them to be. (They are actually smarter than us!)

Cover Love: The awaited suspense is shown as Cassie enters her world or should I say, the world she knew? The dark colors of the trees contrast with the yellow beautifully, illustrating to me that the alien apocalypse has already begun. What made me curious was how Cassie has the bravery to still try to survive and fulfill her promise to her brother when chaos has ruled? (BTW, if I was her, I would probably just kill myself since I panic too much...)

Being the first book in a trilogy and my first time reading in the post-apocalyptic genre, The 5th Wave was surely enjoyable and twisting as one would not trust anything or anyone in that world. Applaud for Mr. Yancey because he does capture the right point of view of a girl (which surprised me because as a girl myself, I would've said or thought the same things as Cassie.) and as well, he writes the characters' fear on point as if the aliens actually came to Earth. And, think about that for a minute, I would feel so scared if aliens actually tried to come to Earth and I would lose all hope...

All the characters in this book will make you worrisome and empathetic for them because at their young age, they are so strong and able since the situation requires them to be. Their emotions are so genuine that you will feel bad that they have to grow up so early at their young age especially for Sammy. Also, their outlooks at their current situation are so downing and real. Take these kids seriously because each of them has that spunk and strength to overcome their dire situation.

Addressing the romance (what I always look for in a book!), the relationship between Cassie and Evan is although risky at the time fills my daily cup of swoon. Both characters deeply care for each other despite the mistrust between both of them. *Ahem* OTHER...
Mr. Yancey's writing entwines the drama and action beautifully in this book. His extended use of figurative language blends with the thoughts and emotions of his characters. As well, the intended use of bad words helps the reader understand the situation the characters are in. However, the different point of views existing in this book may confuse some readers. Within the book, obviously the point of views change when a new chapter is come acrossed. But, when there is a new point of view, the character whose view you are reading in is not revealed until someone says their name or well, when you can figure it out. Still, I think the switch in point of views lets the reader think a little while adding on to the suspense in the book.

A riveting plot that will urge you to NOT put this book down until the end, OTHERS, silencers, guns, should I say more? JUST READ THIS BOOK NOW IS ALL I CAN SAY.
